Steve Gill has been announced as the next President-Elect of the Institute of Refrigeration following an election by members – the first person to be elected for a second time in the Institute’s 125-year history.

The result came as something of a surprise to industry observers, and the winner himself, after vocal support for other candidates on social media.

As President-Elect, Steve will join the IOR Board and work with the current President, Lisa-Jayne Cook until she hands over the presidency at the Institute’s AGM in November 2026.

Steve, who currently works in a technical regulatory role for Haier HVAC, has worked for many years as a consultant, buy has become well-known in cooling and engineering circles in recent years for his facilitating of networks, and establishing mentoring and representative groups, winning him a number of awards in the process.

He is the founder of both World Refrigeration Day and of Dyslexia in Engineering Day and was instrumental in the establishment of the IOR’s Women in RACHP Network. This year, he collaborated with InstallerSHOW on a series of World Refrigeration Day panels, looking at next generation, inclusion and neurodiversity in engineering.

He returns for a second term after serving as president in 2014-2016. He was elected president-elect ahead of three other candidates: Paul Arrowsmith, Rob Lamb and Paul Singh.
