BetaTeach and the Carbon Trust are hosting a free dedicated workshop for local authorities and registered social landlords (RSLs) at elementalLONDON, the UK’s leading event for built environment professionals.

Building on the success of their session at InstallerSHOW, this workshop will focus on practical solutions to the challenges of deploying heat pumps — from procurement and installation quality to resident engagement and long-term performance.

With heat pumps central to local decarbonisation plans, many councils and housing providers face barriers including technical knowledge gaps, poor installation outcomes, and liability risks.

The session will feature:

  • Peer learning from organisations actively deploying heat pumps, including Bristol City Council
  • Expert insights from Nathan Gambling, host of the BetaTalk podcast and founder of the Guild of Master Heating Engineers
  • Collaborative discussion on procurement, quality assurance, and support needs

Nathan van Gambling, creator of BetaTeach and host of low carbon heating podcast, BetaTalk, said:

“We’re creating a space where local authorities can speak openly about the realities of heat pump deployment. It’s about learning together and driving better outcomes.”

Will Rivers, Associate Director at the Carbon Trust, added:

“We saw real appetite for peer learning and honest discussion at InstallerSHOW. At elementalLONDON, we’re building on that momentum — creating space for councils to share what’s working, what’s not, and what support they need to move forward.”

The workshop is free to attend with lunch provided and is a closed non-media session. Attendees receive VIP access to the wider elementalLONDON exhibition.
