Jon Allgood, Head of Asset Management at Seaforth Land and member of the elementalLONDON advisory board, answers our questions.
Q: What is biggest challenge in making buildings efficient?
A: The struggle that we have as an industry is that there is so many different use cases and segments within that area. You’ve got a swathe across Britain of public housing. We’ve got flats that were built in the last 20 years. We’ve got all of the three bed semis and terraced houses throughout the UK. There is no silver bullet that works for all of those use cases, so it’s segmenting to the right use case and the right case studies.
I’d like to think that elemental will be able to answer some of those really difficult questions for each of those use classes.
Q: What are you most excited about at the moment?
A: I think there’s just the growing focus on the area of decarbonisation and building efficiency generally. Everyone wants to do better and I think everybody needs the tools to be able to do better, be that digital holistic view of how buildings work and the right technologies to employ in a particular situation.
Coming back to use cases and case studies, I think the optimism that people have and the willingness to deal with it is where I have the most optimism, and training people and getting things like elemental to bring all of those skills together, I think is really exciting.
Q: Why should people come to elementalLONDON?
A: I think elementalLONDON can bring together all of those elements that we’ve been talking about to drive efficiency in property in the UK.
